Having lived in Ibiza for four memorable years, I was somehow reluctant to accept the tempting proposition of spending a long weekend there. However, it was the desire to show the city to my partner what had prompted me to change my mind.
After setting out everything, I set off to the airport on a Friday afternoon. Once there, I headed to the rent a car office and drove to the private apartment. The first thing that caught my attention in this short trip was that even though I immediately recognized the pristine landscape, the road was a far cry from previous years. As I had some time alone before picking up my partner, I dared to stroll around. This brief walk was truly vigorous and evoked good memories; warm feelings, fragrant scents altogether with recurrent musings. It was as if time had not passed by.
The next morning, and this time accompanied by my soulmate, we directed our steps toward the quaint city of Dalt Vila. There we spent some time touring the walled city and the cobbled streets. After that, we visited some of the authentic towns and villages of the white island. In this route, not only did I revisit but rediscovered Santa Agnes and its almond trees, Sant Antoni's pretty promenade and the Gothic altarpiece of Sant Josep.
As for the culinary experience, I had previously booked at some of the excellent restaurants in the most out-of-the-way spots. However strange it may sound, I was not travelling in the lap of luxury. In fact, the most memorable meal I had was a "sobrasada” omelette sandwich in the mythical Bar Can Costa
In conclusion, initial fears of spoiling the good memory of this coral island was far from being true. The only thing it did was to corroborate the famous Marcel Proust quotation “The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes “. Company, meals, walks, landscape and feelings were familiar but at the same time they proved that having a beginner's mind was the most unrivalled experience.
